For the second consecutive year, all three Birdville ISD comprehensive high schools have been recognized among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Richland, Birdville and Haltom High Schools each earned a spot on the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings – highlighting their commitment to providing students with rigorous academics, meaningful opportunities, and the support they need to thrive. U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 27,000 eligible public high schools across all 50 states and the District of Columbia for its 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings.

“This recognition is a reflection of something much bigger than just a ranking,” said Dr. Gayle Stinson, Superintendent of Schools. “Each of our high schools being included on the list of best high schools in the country tells a story about the spaces our educators and Board of Trustees create every day — spaces where students feel known, supported, and believed in. I am incredibly proud of our teachers, staff and students who continue to show what is possible when we create schools where every student knows they matter and knows they belong.”

U.S. News & World Report ranked schools using six weighted indicators: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance and graduation rate. BISD high school students have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to prepare them for what comes next, including rigorous academic programs, college-preparatory coursework, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, Athletics and other specialized opportunities. 

The U.S. News recognition comes on the heels of multiple significant honors for BISD in the last year. This past spring, BISD was named a semifinalist and Top 25 district in the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. This award’s program recognizes the district’s commitment to academic achievement, innovation, and student success.

Of more than 1,200 school districts across Texas, only 25 were named semifinalists.

In addition, Birdville ISD was named a District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) last fall. This prestigious award is a designation for school districts with robust, high-quality CTE programs that meet the needs of students, local communities, and employers. 

BISD was one of only 72 districts from across the state of Texas to be named a District of Distinction.

“These honors reflect the work happening across BISD every day – work that prepares students for life beyond graduation,” Dr. Stinson said. “Our students are leaving high school with more than a diploma. They are gaining the knowledge, skills, experiences and confidence to pursue their goals and contribute to the world around them. I am grateful to our educators, staff and our Board of Trustees who continue to raise the bar for what is possible for our students.”
