BISD Receives Best-in-Class Award for Energy Conservation, Mullendore Elementary Receives $3,000 Grant for Energy Conservation Club
  • Press Release
What if flipping a switch or adjusting a thermostat could help teach sustainability, save millions of dollars for taxpayers and provide student learning opportunities at the same time? In Birdville ISD, those everyday actions have become part of a larger, intentional effort to operate more efficiently – and the results are being felt district-wide.

Through a partnership with Cenergistic, LLC, BISD has been named a Best-in-Class recipient for exceptional achievement in energy efficiency and sustainability. This distinction reflects years of work to reduce energy consumption, resulting in $6.5 million in total savings to date.

As part of this recognition, Cenergistic has provided the District with a $3,000 grant, which will be used to support the energy conservation club at Mullendore Elementary, the district’s first elementary preparatory STEM academy. Through this campus-based club, Mullendore students can take an active role in learning about conservation and responsible resource use.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Cenergistic for this generous grant supporting Mullendore and our Energy Conservation Club,” said Merrit Dobecka, Mullendore Elementary principal. “We greatly appreciate their support and partnership as we strengthen our STEM programs. This grant will play an important role in growing our students’ understanding of energy and conservation, not only across our campus but also in their everyday lives.”

Mullendore Elementary Conservation Club
Mullendore’s Energy Conservation Club promotes energy awareness through education and action, as students learn where energy comes from, how it is used, and why conservation matters. This club blends science, technology, math and engineering with real-world problem solving, empowering students to become energy conservation leaders.

BISD’s energy conservation efforts have generated measurable results, as the district has reduced greenhouse gas emissions at a level equivalent to recycling 14,367 tons of waste. By proactively managing energy use, BISD maximizes taxpayer resources and reduces ongoing operational costs.

Now in its ninth year of collaboration with Cenergistic, BISD continues to create more efficient buildings and healthier environments across the district. The Best-in-Class award not only celebrates past achievements, but also highlights BISD as a leader and example for school districts striving to balance sustainability, efficiency and educational excellence.
